Our gay Chile tour is one of our most exciting new departures to-date. It is a hybrid tour combining an active adventure (three moderate bike rides and one industrious desert trek) with an upscale wine country affair (expect bottle after bottle, and meal after meal).
Read on for 10 reasons you need to join us in Chile.
10. Photograph Chilean architecture
In Colchagua Valley we sip and swirl vintages in million dollar estates that are as exciting as the grapes themselves. Meanwhile, Santiago is home to some elaborate structures like the Museo de Bellas Artes (Chilean National Museum of Fine Art) and Basilica de La Merced. Even our Atacama Desert hotel is an example of architectural ingenuity.
9. Float in lush lagoons
Lather on the SPF before joining us for a bizarrely buoyant dip in Laguna Piedra. This Andean salt lagoon features abundant flamingo (more on this later) and shorebirds. But the real draw is the salt-dense waters that keep you effortlessly afloat.
8. Live it up in Santiago
Santiago has the best gay scene in Chile and we plan to take a bite out of it. On our final evening together we’ll shantay towards Bellavista, the city’s gorgeous gaybourhood. It’s here we’ll enjoy our last night together while savouring a pisco sour or four. And when the liquid confidence hits –and if the group is feeling up to it – we may swing by Il Divino, the largest gay bar in South America.
7. Discover Chilean cuisine
Our gay Chile tour is packed with unforgettable culinary crusades. We’ll dine al fresco at vineyards, enjoy a desert oasis picnic, and indulge in some sensational group dinners at the country’s best restaurants. But don’t worry, you don’t have to dine with the group every evening. We’ve allotted a number of nights for you to explore the local restaurant scene on your own.
6. Photograph flocks of flamingo
A highlight on the second leg of our gay Chile tour is the National Flamingo Reserve. Throughout the massive reserve are small lagoons where we’ll observe flocks of fuchsia flamingo. Specifically we’ll see the James, Andean and Chilean species. Cameras at the ready!
5. Take a crash course in pisco
We’ve organized a special treat for our first evening together: a guided pisco tasting with Master Distiller, Rodrigo Bauza. The handsome (and gay) sommelier will titillate our taste buds while filling us in on the history and cultural significance of this wildly popular liqueur. Salud!
4. Stargaze in the driest place on Earth.
Atacama Desert is the driest place on Earth. Therefore it has some of the clearest skies in the world making it the perfect location to observe the cosmos. Together with an astronomer we’ll enjoy an evening wallowing in the nebulas and getting lost in the milk way. We’ll pinpoint Orion’s Belt and contemplate Casseopeia. All while sipping hot chocolate and eating freshly baked goodies.
3. Get lost in Valparaiso
While Santiago is Chile’s economic and commercial centre, Valparaiso is its cultural and artistic heart. Together we’ll take a private transfer to this vibrant coastal city and enjoy a fascinating walking tour. We’ll ride the century-old ascensores (elevators) up the city’s steep hills and explore a labyrinth of bright streets, bohemian cafes and elegant restaurants. To end our tour of Valparaiso we’ll dine at the city’s best restaurant featuring an extraordinary view of the harbour below.
2. Hike the Atacama Desert
One of the most popular activities featured on our inaugural Chilean adventure was the desert hike towards a particularly lush oasis. Along the way we enjoy vivid desert vantages and learn about the endemic flora and fauna. The sweaty schlep concludes at Puritama natural hot springs (pictured) where we’ll cool off in its mineral rich waters. Don’t forget your bathing suit.
1. Bike the lush vineyards of Colchagua Valley
Saddle up for two full days of sensational cycling through Chile’s verdant vineyards. We’ll peddle from estate to estate at a comfortable pace, stopping for guided tastings and exuberant lunches. We’ll refuel on juicy reds and vibrant rosés. At one estate we’ll even have the opportunity to bottle and cork our own signature vintage – the perfect souvenir for the oenophile on your list. This will truly be the highlight of the tour.
