From big gay Reykjavík, to the remote and pristine countryside, this 8-day adventure will immerse you in everything there is to love about the Land of Fire and Ice. You’ll explore the famous Golden Circle, float between tectonic plates, traverse a glacier by super-jeep, and – best of all – celebrate Reykjavík Gay Pride with an international group of LGBT travellers and all the friendly locals. Want more Iceland fun? Also check out our Iceland Northern Lights & Essential Sights, departing in March.
Halló! Today you’ll meet your fellow travellers, along with your Icelandic guide, before we ramble through big gay Reykjavík by foot. We’ll then head for an included dinner at one of Iceland’s best restaurants, followed by drinks and a potential spot of dancing.
Today we’ll snorkel in Silfra. Two tectonic plates meet at this rift, and we may even be able to see the crack below. After we’ve unsuited we’ll continue on the Golden Circle to see the infamous Geysir and his little brother Strokkur before visiting Gullfoss, one of the most majestic waterfalls in Iceland.
Today, we’ll drive to Iceland’s South coast to see the majestic Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls, along with the captivating rock formations of Reynisfjara and Reynisdrangar.
Today we’ll trek and ride souped-up “Super Jeeps” across Iceland’s 4th-largest glacier. We’ll hit the Mýrdalsjökull Glacier for an ice-walking lesson, then partake in this Icelandic pastime. Please be aware ice-walking is tricky for the best of us — good mobility is required on this activity. Best of all, this tour takes us off the beaten track, away from the standard sites, giving you the full glacier experience.
Today we’ll hit the Blue Lagoon for a dip, and give this geothermal pool some extra sizzle with other gay and lesbian travellers who are also in town for Pride. Grab a drink and chat up your fellow dippers before we head for our hotel in Reykjavík, and base for the next few nights. This evening features an optional dinner, and perhaps some Pride festivities.
On today’s West Iceland tour we’ll visit the goat farmer Jóhanna which is lauded for almost single-handedly saving the Icelandic goat species from extinction. We’ll explore Surtshellir, or the cave of Surtr, named after the formidable foe from the End of world event Ragnarök in Nordic Mythology. You’ll be driving past the dwelling of Snorri Sturluson, the scholar, poet and writer we have to thank for almost all we know about Nordic mythology and it’s not unlikely he used the eruptions that formed the many volcanic caves in the area as inspiration for his writings. We’ll take you to Hraunfossar & Barnafossar waterfalls which have a tragic story behind them before soaking in the Krauma Spa.
Today you can relax until the afternoon before meeting your guide to witness Reykjavík’s official Gay Pride Parade and a short outdoor concert. After we will enjoy a farewell dinner at a Reykjavik Restaurant and it all ends tonight at the official Pride Dance, the festival’s flagship event. Be sure to end it with a bang!
There are no activities planned today, so you are free to depart at your leisure. Safe travels!
We got VIP treatment at a large local gay Reykjavík event, had special unadvertised extras along the way and got to know people we ordinarily would have just been introduced to in passing. This was my second Out Adventures tour and won’t be my last.
THIS was a tour I went on to appease my partner, I truly was nervous about an “active” adventure. Truth is it turned out to be a trip of a lifetime! Spectacular country with beautiful views, great tour guide, the other travelers were super, and a wonderful itinerary that, as an active one, wasn’t so active that it wore me out! Our days were full and wonderful and I would definitely travel with Out Adventures again. We are already planning our next trip!
The trip far exceeded expectations. Every day’s events were well planned yet flexible enough to accommodate for weather conditions (two excursions were switched to take advantage of this). Though clearly this is not something that can be done on all trips this demonstrates how important the customer experience is to Out Adventures. The guide was excellent and the destination amazing. Our experience was so positive we’re already planning our next trip with Out Adventures.
Friendly and helpful Out Adventures staff before the trip , a great local guide, very good variety of activities, beautiful country.
Not only does OutAdventures put together an ideal itinerary for visiting Iceland, but traveling with Gudni is like having an old friend show you around their home country with pride and a knowledge of the facts AND the people.
